Arthur "Art" Samuel Schleicher

ARTHUR SAMUEL SCHLEICHER January 28, 1921 – August 3, 2017 Arthur Samuel "Art" Schleicher, 96, of Plattsmouth, died August 3, 2017, at the Waterford at Woodbridge in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. He was born on January 28, 1921, to Samuel John and Katherine (Benzel) Schleicher on his father's ranch south of Gering, Nebraska. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1939, and attended the Hastings Business College, from 1939-1941. He served four years in the U.S. Navy during World War II, from May 1942 to January 1946, in the Pacific theater, with final rank of Yeoman Second Class. On June 20, 1954, he was married to Jacqueline "Jackie" Margaret Trupp, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. They were the parents of four children: Janet, Kathryn, Allen and John. He was a long-time community volunteer for the following organizations in Plattsmouth: First Presbyterian Church (session board), CROP walk for hunger relief (treasurer), Operation Christmas (treasurer), Cass County Food Pantry (treasurer), Southeast Nebraska Community Action Agency, Lions Club (treasurer), and Plattsmouth Farmer's Market (manager and vendor). He was a Lord of the Realm of the Kass Kounty King Korn Karnival, and was Parade Grand Marshal in 2002. Art's survivors include his daughter: Janet Christensen, Council Bluffs, IA; daughter and son-in-law: Kathryn and Thomas Lawson, Lincoln, NE; grandson: Samuel Lawson (Tam Nguyen); step-grandson: Michael Lawson (Erica); and son: Allen Schleicher, Lincoln, NE; son: John Schleicher, Omaha, NE; sister: Jolene Wurm, Lakewood, CO; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Samuel and Katherine Schleicher, his wife of 60 years: Jackie Schleicher, son-in-law: Delbert Christensen, sisters and brothers-in-law: Edna and Manuel Frank, Leona and Vic Rien, Eldora and Bill Heyl; brother-in-law: Larry Wurm, and nephew: Perry Hight. Visitations will be from 1:00 to 9:00 P.M., with family greeting relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., on Monday, August 7, 2017, at Roby Funeral Home in Plattsmouth. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church in Plattsmouth with Rev. Matt Coplen officiating and Carol Wehrbein as organist. The Pallbearers will be Delbert Albin, Mike Hall, Merlin Olsen, Charlie Smock, Jay Speck, and Steve Wehrbein. The Honorary Pallbearers will be Art's nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Sunset Memorial Park in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, with Pastor Craig Collins officiating and with military rites.
