Barbara "Barb" Louise Shaffer

BARBARA LOUISE SHAFFER 1945 - 2018 Barbara Louise Shaffer age 72 of Plattsmouth, NE formerly of Omaha, NE passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at The Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth. Barb was born on September 29, 1945 to John Matthew Montenero Sr. and June Bernice (Leebody) Montenero in San Francisco, CA. She was raised and schooled in San Francisco, and after graduating high school, moved to the Midwest. Barb owned the original DeLice Bakery in the Old Market and was the originator and publisher of The Old Market Encounter Magazine. She was an active member of Downtown Omaha Inc. for several years and was instrumental in advancing much of its early growth and influence. Barb was also a long-time member of Connections, a support group of professional women. She and Clifford Willard Shaffer Jr. were later married April 22, 1978 at Westwood Church in Omaha, NE where they were active members. Cliff and Barb made their home and raised their daughters, Corey and Jacque, in the Omaha Metro area. Barb is survived by her two daughters: Corey Aldy of Omaha, NE; Jacque Zimmerer and husband Tim of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren: Jacob Zimmerer and wife Chelsea of Elkhorn, NE; C.J. Zimmerer and wife Kim of Bellevue, NE; Brandon Aldy of Omaha, NE; Nathan Zimmerer of Bellevue, NE; Neely Aldy of Omaha, NE; Hannah Zimmerer of Omaha, NE; two great grandchildren: Hudson Zimmerer and Melanie Zimmerer; two sisters: Joyce Hull and husband Leroy of Dallas, TX; Deborah Datus and husband Michael of Redding, CA; four brothers: John Montenero Jr. and wife Karen of Fairfax, CA; Michael Montenero and wife Irene of Dixon, CA; Joseph Montenero and wife Heidi of Fort Collins, CO; James Montenero of Honolulu, HI; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: John Montenero Sr. and June Montenero, husband: Clifford Shaffer Jr. and her daughter: Denise Shaffer. A dessert reception in celebration of Barb's life will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018, from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at The Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Camp Hot Shots, a nonprofit day camp for children with type one diabetes, an organization that was close to her heart because the disease has affected the lives of her grandchildren.
