BETTY JOANNE GRAUF 1936 – 2022 Betty Joanne (Smith) Grauf age 86 of Omaha, NE passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at her residence. She was born on February 3, 1936 to Robert James Smith and Hazel Louise (Harding) Smith in Omaha, NE. She was raised and schooled in Omaha and in Sioux City, IA and she graduated from Sioux City Central High School with the class of 1954. After graduating from high school, Betty moved to Omaha and worked at the New York Life Insurance Company. She met the love of her life Joe Grauf and they later married on July 23, 1961 at First Christian Church in Plattsmouth, NE. Betty and Joe made their home in Plattsmouth until 1984 when they moved to Arizona. Betty worked at Allied Chemical and Metro Tech College while living in Plattsmouth and then she worked at Glendale Community College in Arizona until retiring in 1996. Betty and Joe moved back to Omaha in 2007. Betty loved spending time with her family. She spent a lot of time following her kids to football, baseball games and wrestling meets. She was an avid reader and loved relaxing with a good book and a cup of coffee. She enjoyed family vacations to the Lake of the Ozarks. She loved time on the water boating and enjoying the sun. After moving to Arizona, she took yearly trips to San Diego and Del Mar California spending time on the beach and reading books. In her youth she enjoyed dancing, tap and ballet along with roller skating at the local rink with her friends. Betty is survived by her husband: Joe Grauf of Omaha, NE; her three sons: Kirk Grauf and his wife Rhonda of Omaha, NE; Lee Grauf and his wife Tina of Otsego, MN; Max Grauf of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren: Zachary Grauf, Ryan Grauf, Alexis Grauf, Kylie Grauf, Braedon Grauf, Nicholas Grauf and wife Amanda, and Joseph Grauf; four great grandchildren: Landon Hack, Micah Grauf, Blake Grauf, and Hunter Grauf; her brother: Robert Smith and his wife Peg of Sun City, AZ; her sister: Vicki Herron of CA; step-brother: Lynn Herron of Casper, WY; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Hazel Smith and her brother: Larry Smith. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at First Christian Church in Plattsmouth with Pastor Michael Lincoln officiating. Her Final Resting Place will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth. The Family suggests Memorials to the American Cancer Society or to the Humane Society.
