Daniel Norman Covert Sr.

Daniel “Senior” Norman Covert, Sr. age 89 of Plattsmouth, NE passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at the Bellevue Medical Center in Bellevue, NE. Dan was born on June 11, 1936 to LeRoy Fremont Covert and Margaret Ellen (Maybee) Covert in Plattsmouth, NE. He was raised and schooled in Plattsmouth and Dan graduated from Plattsmouth High School with the class of 1954. After graduating from high school, Dan proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years from 1954 until 1958. After serving his country, Dan returned to Plattsmouth and he worked as lineman, then foreman for the Omaha Public Power District for thirty-seven years. He was a member of Hugh J. Kerns American Legion Post #56 of Plattsmouth. Dan owned and operated D.C.’s Waterhole Bar from 1981 until 1998. He met Wanda Pearl Isaac and they were later married on October 11, 1998 in Reno, NV. Dan and Wanda made their home in Plattsmouth. Dan also co-owned C&F Refrigeration in the 1980’s and was the go-to man for all things heating and air. He was known to help many people in their time of need and would often not ask for anything in return. Dan had many hobbies, including his love of reading, woodworking and watching Husker Football and Volleyball. Dan and Wanda loved travelling and camping, and would often take their dog(s) with them. Along with their children, their dogs were very important to them – Charlie, Barney, Sissy and Missy Dan had an extraordinary gift for connecting with people of all ages, leaving a lasting impact on multiple generations throughout the community. In his later years, he found joy in his daily visits to DC’s with the morning coffee crew, leisurely drives around town in his red truck, and unhurried moments spent by the river in quiet reflection. Whether offering a few wise words or sharing thoughtful insights on just about anything, Dan’s presence, perspective, and friendship will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Dan is survived by his three daughters: Denise Zych and her husband Stan of Plattsmouth, NE, Julie Lunn and her husband Tregg of Lincoln, NE and Jennifer Jensen and her husband Shane of Plattsmouth, NE; Grandchildren: Charlies, Maggie, Erika and Alexis, stepchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents: LeRoy and Margaret Covert, his wife: Wanda Covert, his son: Daniel Covert Jr., five brothers; Wilbur, Sonny (Elburn), Jerry (LeRoy), Richard and John and three sisters; Sheila, Vesta and Lela. A Celebration of Life Pizza Party will be held for both Dan and Wanda Covert from 1:00 to 6:00 P.M., on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at D.C.’s Waterhole in Plattsmouth. His final resting place will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth. Memorials to the family, or a suitable charity will be chosen at a later date.
