David W. Hamling

DAVID W. HAMLING 1941 – 2024 David W. Hamling age 82 of Plattsmouth, NE peacefully passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024 after a three-year battle with lung cancer. David was born on March 4, 1941 in rural Norfolk, NE to Leo and Evelyn Hamling. The family then moved to Plattsmouth, where he attended St. John the Baptist School. Later, they moved to Omaha where David finished his Catholic schooling at the Immaculate Conception church and went on to attend South High School. David enlisted in the United States Navy in 1959. His deployments were on the U.S.S. Ranger and the U.S.S. Rochester and was honorably discharged in 1963. After returning home to Omaha, NE, he met and then married Karen Lee Judevine on July 16,1965 and to this union, five children were born. Being the son of a carpenter, David chose the same path. For the next 50 years, David was a member of the IBEW Electricians Union and the Local 427 Carpenters Union. Later in life, David decided to move back home to Plattsmouth where he finished out his career and was a business owner of the family owned and operated Blue Devil Detail and Auto Body. After retirement he decided to drive the school bus for the Plattsmouth School systems for the next 13 years in which he enjoyed tremendously. His hobbies included being an avid bowler, boy scout leader, little league baseball coach, fishing with his boys, going to car shows and watching his grandchildren's sporting events. He also took great pride in his lawn and garden. David was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Plattsmouth for 37 years and a member of Lepert Wolever V.F.W. Post #2543 in Plattsmouth. David is survived by his wife: Karen, three sons: Randy (Michelle), Rick (Laura), and Roger (Rachel); daughter: Rhonda (Norm) Kenney; seventeen grandchildren: MacKenzie, Ashley, Garrett, Vanessa, Danielle, Alyssa, Brandon, Hunter, Holden, Ricki, Cody, Tyler, Zachary, Chase, Morgan, Derek, and Reed; fourteen great grandchildren: Sky, Lilly, Levi, Sophie, Carter, Sutton, Dakota, Drew, Everleigh, Miles, Sloan, Kiara, Graham, and Demi; and his two sisters: Karen Kay (Ed) Bazar and Marceline (Terry) Noah. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Duaine, son: Robert, and great-granddaughter: Tatum. Visitations will be held from 1:00 to 5:00 P.M., Friday, February 2, 2024 at Roby Funeral Home in Plattsmouth. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M., Friday, February 2, 2024 at Church of the Holy Spirit in Plattsmouth. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Church of the Holy Spirit with Father Sean Timmerman officiating. Dan Rubin as acolyte, Glen Judevine as lector, and Terry Little as the vocalist. The Pallbearers will be Cody Hamling, Derek Hamling, Brandon Hamling, Tyler Hamling, Reed Hamling, Garret Hamling, Holden Hamling, and Zachary Nickels. The Honorary Pallbearers will be Hunter Hamling and Chase Hamling. His Final Resting Place will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Plattsmouth. Military Rites will be conducted by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honor Guard, Lepert Wolever V.F.W. Post #2543 Honor Guard, and the V.F.W. Post 2503 Honor Guard.
