ELDONNA SOPHIA FORREST 1933 – 2024 Eldonna Sophia (Gobber) Forrest age 90 of Plattsmouth, NE peacefully passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the Bellevue Medical Center in Bellevue, NE. She was born on December 23, 1933 in her family’s home in rural Elk Creek, NE. Eldonna was the fourth of five children born to Otto Friedrich Wilhelm Gobber and Emma Anna Sophia (Oestmann) Gobber. She was baptized on January 14, 1934 and later confirmed on September 12, 1948 at St. James Lutheran Church of rural Humboldt, NE. Eldonna attended a rural grade school and she attended high school in Elk Creek, NE graduating with the class of 1952. After high school she attended and graduated from Peru State Teachers College in Peru, NE to become an elementary school teacher. She spent her first-year teaching in Rockport, MO and then in 1955 she moved to Plattsmouth, where she continued teaching. She met Lyle Richard Forrest, who also lived in Plattsmouth and they were married on June 17, 1956 at St. James Lutheran Church in Humboldt, NE. Eldonna and Lyle made their home in Plattsmouth and they became members of First Lutheran Church in Plattsmouth. They were blessed with three children, Bradley, Lorie, and Scott. In 1996 she retired after teaching for 36 years in the same classroom. Eldonna received the Teacher of the Year Award from the Plattsmouth Education Association in the spring of 1996. Her husband Lyle passed away on June 28, 1998. Eldonna was active in her church and she was a member to the First Lutheran Ladies Guild and she taught Sunday school and V.B.S. for many years. She was also a member of the Cass County Historical Society and she enjoyed the many activities at the Plattsmouth Senior Center. She is survived by her three children: Bradley (Sheila) Forrest of Lincoln, NE, Lorie (Bruce) Yelick of Plattsmouth, NE, and Scott Forrest of Plattsmouth, NE; five grandchildren: Kyle Forrest of Plattsmouth, NE, Bailey Forrest of Lincoln, NE, Kaylee (Justin) Slutzky of Omaha, NE, Kari (Dillon) Blazina of Malvern, IA, and Kristin (Ian) Biehl of Eagle, NE; great granddaughter: Kira; her sister: Ilma Gottula of Tecumseh, NE; her brother: Robert (Vicky) Gobber of Gretna, NE; her sister-in-law: Erma Gobber of Manhattan, KS; and many loving nieces, nephews. and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents: Otto and Emma Gobber, her husband: Lyle Forrest, two brothers: Raymond (Norma) Gobber, Orville Gobber, her brother-in-law: Eugene Gottula, and her sister-in-law: Norma Gobber. Visitations will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 P.M., with the family greeting relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Roby Funeral Home in Plattsmouth. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., on Friday, September 13, 2024 at the First Lutheran Church in Plattsmouth with Pastor Ryan Maser officiating and Marsha Fleming as organist. The Pallbearers will be Kyle Forrest, Kaylee Slutzky, Kari Blazina, Kristin Biehl, and Bailey Forrest and the Honorary Pallbearers will be Justin Slutzky, Dillon Blazina, and Ian Biehl. The burial in the hope of eternal life will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth. The family suggests Memorials to First Lutheran Church or the Plattsmouth Education Association.
