Eugene "Gene" Edward Kocanda

EUGENE EDWARD KOCANDA 1930 – 2023 Eugene “Gene” Edward Kocanda age 92 entered heaven surrounded by his family on Monday, August 21, 2023, at his home in Plattsmouth, NE. Gene was born on October 16, 1930, to Jerry Joseph Kocanda and Anna Agnes (Grisnick) Kocanda in Omaha, NE. He was raised and schooled in Omaha at Holy Ghost Catholic School, and he graduated from South High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army proudly serving his country during the Korean War from May of 1951 until July of 1953. After serving his country, Gene returned to Omaha, and he began working HVAC. He met the love of his life Mary Louise “Mary Lou” Hrbek, and they were later married on June 4, 1955, at Assumption Catholic Church in Omaha. Gene and Mary Lou made their home and raised their children in Omaha. Gene started his own business, Interstate Heating and Air Conditioning in Omaha, which he owned and operated for many years. In 1992, Gene and Mary Lou moved to Buccaneer Bay. He was a member of the Church of The Holy Spirit, DAV, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Gene is survived by his daughter, Terri (Mic) Heineman; children: Cheryl (Chris) Prine, their children Christian & Charleigh; Greg Heinman; Nicole (Drew) Allison, ther children Olivia and Delyanie; granddaughter Ryan Heineman. Daughter, Jeanne Miller: her son TJ Miller, Son, Mike Kocanda, Son, Bill Kocanda; his daughter Katie Kocanda, Daughter, Ann (Steve) McAndrews; children: Jeremy (Amanda) McAndrews, their children Makenna & Blake; Stephanie (Marcus) Madej, their children Peyton, Ava, & Ruby, and son, Paul (Audra) Kocanda; children: Bryan (Nicole) Kocanda, their son Lincoln; Camryn Mortrude, Abby (Aaron) Plefeuger, their children Kash, Cooper Weston, & Hollynn; sister, Rita (Eugene) Svagera; his brother: Bob (Berni) Kocanda; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jerry and Anna Kocanda, his wife: Mary Lou, children: Ed and Pat, his grandson: Ryan Heineman, siblings: Dorothy Johnson, Jerry, Frank, Eddie and Mary Ellen Flott. Visitations will be held from 4:30 to 7:00 P.M., with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M., Friday, August 25, 2023, at Church of The Holy Spirit in Plattsmouth. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Church of The Holy Spirit with Father Sean Timmerman officiating, lectors, Steph Madej, and Cheryl Prine, Leo Sand as acolyte, Terry Little as vocalist, and Laurie Hajek-Jones as organist. The Pallbearers will be Cheryl Prine, Nicole Allison, Greg Heineman, TJ Miller, Jeremy McAndrews, Steph Madej, Bryan Kocanda, and Abby Pflueger. His Final Resting Place will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Bellevue, NE, with full military honors. The family suggests Memorials for Masses or Donor’s Favorite Charity.
