John Raymond Engle

JOHN RAYMOND ENGLE 1931 – 2017 John Raymond Engle age 86 of Plattsmouth, NE passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at The Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth. He was born on July 30, 1931 to John Mathies and Stella (Spang) Engle in Lebanon, PA. John was raised and schooled in Lebanon and he graduated from South Lebanon High School with the class of 1949. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country for twenty one years. He met his wife, Dorothy D. Jordan at the National Security Agency in Washington, DC and they were married on September 15, 1951. He was first stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in 1959 as a lithographer. He retired from the Air Force in 1970, but continued to work for the Civil Service until he officially retired in 1988. John was a member of First United Methodist Church, Plattsmouth Masonic Lodge #6 A.F. and A.M., and Hugh J. Kerns American Legion Post #56 all of Plattsmouth. He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Engle of Plattsmouth, NE; three daughters: Brenda Schuster of Plattsmouth, NE; Melanie Matya Patera and husband Zachary of Bellevue, NE; Diane Roth and husband Sheldon of Bellevue, NE; twelve grandchildren: Christopher Schuster and wife Sandy, Johnathan Schuster and wife Brooke, Jamie Gemar and husband Zac, Alicia Clough and husband Mike, Laura Ofsanik and husband Mark, Katie Olson and husband Ryan, Adam Denniston, Sarah Lewiston and husband Nate, Jared Matya and wife Sarah, Jillian Matya, Kory Patera and wife Christa, and Andrew Patera and fiancée Rachel; ten great grandchildren; brother: Robert Engle of Lebanon, PA; sister in law: Darlene Engle of Palmyra, PA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Stella Engle, sister: Stella Miller, and his brother: Lloyd Engle. Visitations will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M., Friday, November 24, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Plattsmouth. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, November 24, 2017 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Lane Bailey officiating, William Rishel as eulogist, Sarah Lewiston and Pam Osthus as vocalists, and Donna Glynn organist. The Pallbearers will be Christopher Schuster, Johnathan Schuster, Adam Denniston, Jared Matya, Kory Patera, and Andrew Patera. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chuck and Florence Anderson, Jamie Gemar, Alicia Clough, Laura Ofsanik, Katie Olson, Sarah Lewiston, and Jillian Matya. Interment will be 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 24, 2017 at Omaha National Cemetery, Omaha, NE with Military Rites by the Offutt Air Force Base Military Rites Team of Bellevue, NE.
