Lois Minford

LOIS MINFORD 1932 – 2018 Lois Nellie (Sporer) Minford age 85 of Louisville, NE formerly of Murray, NE passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Louisville Care Center in Louisville. She was born on November 12, 1932 to Chester Arthur and Helen Marie (Brandt) Sporer on her family’s farm in Murray. Lois was raised and schooled in Murray and she graduated from Plattsmouth High School in Plattsmouth, NE with the class of 1950. After graduating from high school Lois began her teaching career, teaching country school. In 1951 she began studying for her teaching degree at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, NE and she later graduated from Peru State College in 1977. Lois met George Melvin Minford and they later married on August 21, 1955 in Murray. Lois and George always worked as a team growing corn and soybeans and raising livestock. They made their home in Murray and Newport, NE. Lois returned to teaching and she specialized in country school. She had taught rural school in Newport and all told Lois taught for fifty years ending her career teaching G.E.D. in Plattsmouth in 2013. She was a lifelong member of Murray Christian Church and a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. Lois is survived by her three sons: Mike Minford of Murray, NE; Joe Minford of Grand Island, NE; Randy Minford of Murray, NE; her daughter: Kathleen Major and husband Dave of Valentine, NE; five grandchildren: Will Major of Omaha, NE; Lee G. Major of Valentine, NE; Kirk Major of Albany, GA; Jessica Lamphear and husband Mark of Arnold, NE; Sarah Hood and husband Matt of Red Cloud, NE; three great grandchildren: Johnathon Lamphear, Jamison Lamphear, Breawna Hood; her sister: Ruth Ann Sack of Louisville, NE; two nieces: Ellen Nealeigh husband Ron of Norfolk, NE; Anna Plank and husband Gary of Lincoln, NE; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Chester and Helen Sporer, husband: George M. Minford, her brother in law: Richard Sack, and granddaughter: Melissa Major. Visitations will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018 from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Murray Christian Church in Murray. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Murray Christian Church with Pastor Michael Njus officiating and Ruth Neeman as organist. The Pallbearers will be Marvin Baxter, Terry Grell, Rod McKulsky, Dean Nickels, David Sharp, and Jeff Wiles. Her final resting place will be at Eight Mile Grove Cemetery in Murray, NE.
