Margery "Peggy" Hellen Etherington

MARGERY HELEN ETHERINGTON 1934 – 2026 Margery “Peggy” Helen (Schmanke) Etherington, age 91 of Papillion, NE formerly of Beaver Lake passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at her residence. Peggy was born on December 15, 1934 to Arthur Schmanke and Frieda (Diepenbrock) Schmanke on a farm thirty miles west of Topeka, KS in rural Alma, KS. Although it was the height of the depression, she never really felt it. Her parents raised cattle, hogs, and chickens and grew all the fruits and vegetables anyone could want. She grew up on her family’s farm and was raised and schooled in Alma and Peggy graduated from Alma High School with the class of 1952. Once Peggy graduated from high school, she was ready to move on. She went to Omaha to attend airline communications school, hoping to find a job in Denver afterward. When that didn’t work out, she accepted a position at Mutual of Omaha. Not long after, she met William “Bill” Schrack, they married in October of 1954 and Peggy became the mother of four children: William “Bill”, Marla, Monica (Bootsie), and Michelle. Peggy and Bill made their home in many different locations while Bill was serving his country in the United States Navy and later the Air Force. She went on to work at AT&T for 25 years. In April of 1971, she married Gary L. Etherington. After retiring Peggy and Gary made their home at Beaver Lake and spent some of the best years of their lives there. She loved Murray Presbyterian Church and the many people she met through the church. The church played a big role in making her life so fulfilling. She is survived by her son: William “Bill” Schrack and his wife Terrie of Papillion, NE; her three daughters: Marla Moulton of Elkhorn, NE, Monica “Bootsie” Schrack of Portland, OR, and Michelle Hiatt and her husband Jeff of Clyo, GA; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; her sister: Pat Dismukes of Rockwall, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents: Arthur and Frieda Schmanke, her sister: Betty Worman, three brothers: Jack Dale, Glen Schmanke, and Don Schmanke, and her husbands: Bill Schrack and Gary Etherington. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Murray Presbyterian Church with Pastor Suzanne Gorhau officiating, Jeff Hiatt as vocalist, and Karla Remmers as the organist.
