DARRELL SCHOENING 1933 – 2020 Ernie Darrell Schoening, age 87 of Council Bluffs, IA formerly of Plattsmouth, NE peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at his home. Darrell was born on April 6, 1933 to Ernie Nicholas and Norma Jean (Schoening) Schoening in Mineola, IA. Darrell was raised and schooled in Glenwood, IA and he graduated from Glenwood High School with the class of 1950. After graduating from high school, Darrell worked for his dad at Schoening Motors in Glenwood. Then Darrell owned and operated the Hi-Way 92 Salvage Yard in Council Bluffs and 73-75 Club in Plattsmouth, NE. Darrell met April Kristen Dasher and they were later married on September 30, 1983 at First Christian Church in Plattsmouth. Darrell and April made their home in Plattsmouth and later in Council Bluffs. He had worked as the manager at Lepert Wolever V.F.W. Post #2543 in Plattsmouth for nine years. Darrell retired at age 63. He had been a member of Lepert Wolever V.F.W. Post #2543 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #365 both of Plattsmouth. Darrell is survived by his wife: April Schoening of Council Bluffs, IA; six sons: Mick Schoening of Council Bluffs, IA; Dennis Schoening and wife Donna of Bettendorf, IA; Blaine Schoening and Brenda of Council Bluffs, IA; Alan Schoening and wife Ann of Council Bluffs, IA; Greg Schoening of Omaha, NE; Kevin Schoening of Noel, MO; five daughters: Elaine Beale of Colorado Springs, CO; Jeanne Toruek and husband Joe of Omaha, NE; Suzie Sargent and husband Bill of Council Bluffs, IA; Virginia Jorgensen and husband Mike of CA; Sherrie Zimmer of Plattsmouth, NE; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sister: Connie Marshall and husband Jim of Beaverton, OR; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Ernie and Norma Schoening. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Roby Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Stevens officiating. *Covid 19 guidelines will be followed at the mortuary, please wear a mask and use social distancing.* His Final Resting Place will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth.
