MICHAEL ARTHUR MCCOY SR. 1947 – 2021 Michael “Mike” Arthur McCoy Sr. age 74 of Plattsmouth, NE passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the Bellevue Medical Center in Bellevue, NE. Mike was born on April 9, 1947 Robert Lee and Lola Kay (Wilson) McCoy in Dayton, OH. He was raised and schooled in Kettering, OH and he graduated from Kettering Fairmont High School with the class of 1966. After graduating from high school, Mike enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and he proudly served his country for four years during the Vietnam War. Mike was as Sergeant in the Air Force as an airplane and helicopter mechanic at Offutt AFB in Bellevue, NE, Goose Bay AFB, Labrador, Canada, and Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City, SD. While Mike was stationed at Offutt, he met the love of his life Nancy Ellen Tilson of Plattsmouth and they were later married on March 29, 1969 in Mynard, NE. Mike and Nancy were blessed with three sons, Michael Arthur McCoy Jr. (52) of Phoenix, Sean Patrick McCoy (49) of Plattsmouth, and Timothy Ryan McCoy (44) of Omaha. Mike was a man of many talents. After serving his country, Mike returned to Ohio to work for NCR (National Cash Register) before taking a job as a Lithographer Apprentice in 1971. Mike and Nancy relocated to Plattsmouth in 1972, where he worked as lithographer for several offset printing companies, including Interstate Printing, Orent Graphic Arts, and Omaha Graphics, from 1972 until 2001. Mike enjoyed building structures and devices, and had many projects throughout his life. One dream of his was to have a hobby farm and build a house and he was able to do both. He planted an orchard of fruit trees and built his wife a barn for her horses out of scrap lumber. He loved to garden and raised all kinds of vegetables for his family to eat. He loved to go fishing and taught his boys to love the outdoors. Mike was a visionary and put in a heat pump and built his own solar panels when others were just hearing of such wonders. Mike loved his family. He enjoyed visiting with his nieces and nephews and was delighted when he was presented with grandchildren. Having Matthew and Leslie and Max and Hazel near him was a joyous occasion. Putting puzzles together and watching Nebraska Football games and just being with family were some of Mike’s favorite activities. Mike didn’t have it easy. After being diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1990 one would think he might have given up, but Mike persevered and kept a happy smile and cheerful disposition. He had reason to get down, but he took things in stride and didn’t let it get to him. Mike was a gift from God. We will all miss him but he is hearing “Well done good and faithful servant,” in the presence of his Savior. Mike is survived by his wife: Nancy McCoy of Plattsmouth, NE; sons: Michael McCoy and wife Dawn of Phoenix, AZ; Sean McCoy and wife Tereza of Plattsmouth, NE; Tim McCoy and wife Shelley of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Hannah McCoy of New Zealand, Grace McCoy, Ethan McCoy, Dylan McCoy, Isabelle McCoy, Matthew Peterson, Lezlee Peterson, Max McCoy, and Hazel McCoy; one great grandson: Bon Arrowsmith; brother: Rick McCoy and wife Sue of State College, PA, brother-in-law: Ron Tilson and wife Donna of Plattsmouth, NE; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Mike was preceded in death by his parents: Robert and Lola McCoy, brother: Robert McCoy, two brothers-in-law: Fred Tilson and Terry L. Tilson, and his sister-in-law: Karen Taenzler. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 4, 2021 at First United Methodist Church in Plattsmouth with Pastor Lee Wigert officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard, Military Funeral Honors Team of Bellevue, NE. His Final Resting Place will be at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Plattsmouth.
