Opal Irene Chappell Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

OPAL IRENE CHAPPELL 1921 - 2015 Opal Irene (Byers) Chappell age 94 of Plattsmouth, NE passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2015 at her daughter's residence. Opal was born on April 26, 1921 to Walter Paul and Lou June (Baldwin) Byers in Rock Bluff, NE. She was raised in Rock Bluff and graduated from Plattsmouth High School with the class of 1939. After graduating from high school, she worked as a waitress at Farney Cafe in Plattsmouth. She met Henry "Hank" Louis Chappell and they were later married on June 15, 1940 in Glenwood, IA. Opal and Hank made their home and raised their children in Plattsmouth. She had worked at the Kent Motel and Cafe, Cass County Museum, Plattsmouth School System, and the City of Plattsmouth. Opal was a lifelong Plattsmouth resident, living at the Casco Arms for thirty three years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Lepert Wolever V.F.W. Post #2543 Auxiliary both of Plattsmouth. She is survived by her daughter: Joleen Faubel of Plattsmouth, NE, two sons: William "Bill" Chappell of Plattsmouth, NE, Richard Chappell of Bird City, KS, six grandchildren: Tyler Faubel, Shantey Faubel and Andrew Adkins, Heather Samland and husband Ron Jr., Seth Chappell and wife Richelle, Mary Chappell, Nathan Chappell, two step grandchildren: Connie Jo Gillott and Randy Gillott, Eddie Hill, ten great grandchildren including Nathan and Emmie Jo, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Walter and June Byers, stepfather: Evan Noble, husband: Henry "Hank" Chappell, two sister: Mary Ellen McNeil, Helen Farney, son-in-law: David Faubel, and niece and husband: Margaret and Carl Haith. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Cassco Arms (801 Washington Ave.) in Plattsmouth. Final Resting Place will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in rural Plattsmouth, NE. Memorials to the Family (A suitable charity will be chosen at a later date).
