BILLY JOE FARIS 1943 – 2024 Bill Faris age 80 of Murray, NE peacefully passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024 at his home. Bill was born on January 31, 1943, to Curtis Copenhaver Faris and Bessie Jane (Royer) Faris in Murray, NE. He was raised and schooled in Murray, and he graduated from Plattsmouth High School with the class of 1961. Bill met the love of his life, Constance “Connie” Joan Pfeifer, in high school. They later married on October 26, 1963, in Plattsmouth, NE. Bill was drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served his country for two years based in Germany from 1966 until 1968. He worked at John Deere in Omaha, Nebraska, for twenty-one years while he farmed and raised livestock. When John Deere closed, Bill worked at the ASCS office for twenty-five years; he continued to farm and sell seed corn for ten years. Bill was a 4-H leader, little league coach, and participated in the Bellevue Wasp Shotgun League. He also loved to hunt deer and pheasant with his brothers, children, and grandchildren. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, Hugh J. Kerns American Legion Post #56, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #365 all of Plattsmouth. Bill is survived by his wife: Connie Faris of Murray, NE; two sons: Kirk (Robyn) Faris of Tecumseh, NE and Jeff (Leslie) Faris of Union, NE; two daughters: Kelly (Gary) Todd of Union, NE and Joni (Troy) Ruffner of Beaver Lake, NE; eight grandchildren: Tanner Faris, Mackenzie Faris-Hoins, Sydney Todd, Jacob Faris, Mitch Faris, Whitney Todd, Reagan Ruffner-Vrtiska, and Braden Ruffner; two great-grandsons: Greyson and Griffin Hoins; two sisters: Frances “Kay” Cornwell of Belgrade, NE and Carol (Richard) Frolich of Omaha, NE; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Curtis and Bessie Faris, three brothers: Robert Faris, Jack Faris, and Donald Faris, and his brother-in-law: James “Jim” Cornwell. Visitations will be held from 3:30 to 7:00 P.M., with family greeting relatives and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 Church of the Holy Spirit in Plattsmouth. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at the Church of the Holy Spirit with Father Sean Timmerman officiating, Traci Schuette as lector, Dan Rubin as acolyte, Eamon Hajek-Jones as vocalist, and Laurie Hajek-Jones as organist. The Pallbearers will be Tanner Faris, Jacob Faris, Mitch Faris, Braden Ruffner, Gabe Hoins, and Rudy Vrtiska. The Honorary Pallbearers will be Mackenzie Faris-Hoins, Sydney Todd, Whitney Todd, Reagan Ruffner-Vrtiska, and Gary Stohlmann. His Final Resting Place will be at East Union Cemetery in Union, NE. Military Rites will be conducted by the Nebraska Army National Guard, Military Funeral Honor Guard. The family suggests Memorials to the Conestoga Schools Foundation or to Murray Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
