DALE EUGENE NICKELS 1950 - 2016 Dale Eugene Nickels age 65 of Murray, NE passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Nebraska Medicine – Bellevue. He was born on September 16, 1950 to Robert Dale and Shirley Mae (Burcham) Nickels in Omaha, NE. He was raised in Murray, living the first 3 years of his life in a log cabin on the family farm, and then moving into the house his great grandfather built on the same farm. He attended the Lewiston Country School until it closed, then attended the Murray Elementary School. Dale graduated from Nehawka High School in 1968. After graduation, he joined his father, Robert Nickels, and grandfather, Perry Nickels, running the family farm. Dale married Marcia K. (Mogensen) Nickels in 1969, to this union were born 3 children, Marcy Ann (Nickels) Wagner, Jeannie Lynn Nickels and Robert Perry Nickels. They were married for 30 years. He later married Janet Crom (Barber) in 2001, they were married for 7 years. In 2013, he married Allie Metz-Nickels. In his younger years, Dale was involved in Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Life Scout and later served as Scout Master for several years. The Cass County Fair and 4-H were an integral part of his life. He has served on the Cass County Fair Board for the past 18 years. Dale showed cattle in his youth. He carried his love of 4-H on with his children and grandchildren. Dale enjoyed restoring tractors and was an Oliver enthusiast. He could be found every year at the Harvest Festival Antique Tractor Show on this restored Oliver tractor. Dale served on the Murray Fire and Rescue for 15 years, the Lewiston Cemetery Board, and was a life long member of the Murray Christian Church. Dale is survived by his wife: Alice Metz-Nickels of Murray, NE; two daughters: Marcy Wagner and husband Scott of Murray, NE; Jeannie Nickels of Weeping Water, NE; son: Robert P. Nickels of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren: Paige Wagner, Shelby Wagner, Trent Nickels, Dalton Nickels, Devin Wagner, Karissa Nickels; sister: Sharon Macrander and husband Michael of Murray, NE; brother: Dean Nickels and wife Julie of Murray, NE; five step children: Krysta (David) Mariscal of Bellevue, NE; Ehren (Jennifer) Schlueter of Omaha, NE; Austin (Mikhala) Schlueter of Omaha, NE; Michael (Julie) Schlueter of Omaha, NE; Michelle (Bryan) Schlueter of Omaha, NE; foster son: Jason (Dara) Hogueison, Plattsmouth, NE, special friend: Sue (Vance) Marvin, Eureka Springs, AR, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Shirley Nickels. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 P.M., with family greeting relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Roby Funeral Home in Plattsmouth. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Murray Christian Church in Murray with Pastor Michael Njus officiating. Dale's Final Resting Place will be next to his grandfather, R. Perry Nickels at Lewiston Cemetery near Murray. The Pallbearers will be Trent Nickels, Dalton Nickels, Tim Drews, Gary Stohlmann, Alan Miller, and Corey Hobscheidt. The Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Hoschar, Lonnie Hoschar, Chris Spangler, Bob Spangler, Ron Drews, Duane Murdoch, and Clifford Rogers. Memorials to the family, to establish a Conestoga agricultural scholarship.
