Daniel "Dan" W. Young

DANIEL W. YOUNG 1946 – 2022 Daniel “Dan” W. Young age 76 of Plattsmouth, NE peacefully passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022 at The Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth. Dan was born the second son to Harold Blaine Young and Dorothy Frances (Truog) Young in Fort Morgan, CO. He spent most of his youth in East Dallas, TX, where he graduated from Bryan Adams High School with the class of 1964. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force as an Electronic Warfare Reprogramming Specialist. During his time in the Air Force he met and married Kristine “Kris” Johnson. After a tour in Viet Nam and upon completion of his commitment to the Air Force, Dan expanded his technical knowledge and capabilities by completing Control Data Institute’s Technical Vocational School. With these skills Dan forged a longtime career with Data General Corporation in computer technology, eventually relocating to the corporate headquarters in Massachusetts. Dan settled his family in Woodstock, Connecticut, where his children finished school and grew into their own lives. After raising their family Dan and Kris dissolved their union. Dan would later meet the love of his life, Nancy Yaun. They married in 1995, thus beginning their journey with a newly blended family and many exciting adventures. Upon retirement from Data General as a Senior Instructional Designer/Developer, Dan happily joined Nancy in a move to sunny Arizona to support her in her growing career. They eventually chose to settle in Plattsmouth to be near family and enjoy their retirement. Dan was a loving husband, devoted father, gramps, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a helper, a doer, and a servant of God. Dan shared his generous soul by volunteering in many churches and organizations including Meals-on-Wheels and Under His Wings Thrift Store. Dan was a proud Mason for nearly 50 years, ending his journey of service with Plattsmouth Masonic Lodge #6 A.F. and A.M. Dan had many hobbies he enjoyed and enthusiastically shared with his family and friends. Among them were piloting his airplane, fishing, hiking, quilting, and sewing with the ladies of Holy Stitchers. Dan was very well known for his love of music, entertaining others with his singing and dancing through the entirety of his life. His infectious smile, outgoing personality, and friendly nature will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by those who love him. Dan will forever live on in the memories of his loving wife, Nancy, his children Michael (Krista) Young, Kristin (Eric Sieh) Young, David (Jen) Young, Derek Yaun, Iris (Ben) Gohn, Luke Yaun, brother Curtis Young and sister Katherine (Bob) Bearden, numerous grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Dan was preceded in death by his parents: Harold and Dorothy Young and beloved brother: H. Blaine Young II. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. with a Masonic Rites Service at 7:00 P.M., on Monday, January 9, 2023 at Roby Funeral Home in Plattsmouth. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Plattsmouth with Pastor Jim Spanjers officiating. The Pallbearers will be Curtis Young, Daniel Young, David Young, Derek Yaun, Luke Yaun, and Ben Gohn. Military Rites will be conducted by the Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard, Military Funeral Honors Team of Bellevue, NE and the American Legion Post #1 of Omaha, NE. His Burial will be at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Omaha National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donating to either The Nebraska Masonic Home (1300 Ave D, Plattsmouth, NE 68048) or the Alzheimer’s Association (website alz.org).
