DOROTHY LAVERNE HEYE 1940 – 2025 Dorothy “Granny” LaVerne Heye, age 85 formerly of Plattsmouth, NE passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025 at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, NE. Dorothy was born on April 29, 1940, the daughter of Elzy George Parrish and Dollie LaVerne (Cooper) Parrish in Walthill, NE. She was raised in Walthill, where she attended grade school before her family later moved to South Sioux City, NE. Dorothy graduated from Grand Meadow High School with the Class of 1958. While attending nursing school and working at a local restaurant, Dorothy met Joe Hallowell. The two were soon united in marriage and made their home in Omaha, NE, where they welcomed and lovingly raised their son, Lannie. Dorothy married Donald “Don” Heye on October 3, 1992. They were married 363 days until Don’s passing. Together they created many wood working crafts, quilt racks, Christmas items, and many others and sold them under the name DonDor Enterprises. Granny was a gifted seamstress with a true talent for creating with her hands. She eventually started her own sewing business and was a lifelong quilt maker, carefully crafting countless quilts that she generously gave to family, friends, and those in need. Each quilt was a reflection of her love, patience, and giving heart. Dorothy’s other creative passion was making Santa Clause’s out of gourds. She painted hundreds of the precious gourds and traveled to craft fairs selling her wares. Later in life, Granny found love again with William “Butch” McGraw, and together they made their home in Plattsmouth, where they shared many cherished years surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her son: Lannie Hallowell and his wife Maggie of Millard, NE; three grandchildren: Benjamin Hallowell and wife Joli of Bennington, NE, Camila Dickson and husband Cameron of Lincoln, NE, and Harrison Hallowell of Minneapolis, MN; two great grandchildren: Ava and Emma Hallowell; her brother: Doyle Parrish and his wife Patty of Dakota City, NE; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Granny was preceded in death by her parents: Elzy and Dollie Parrish, two brothers: Richard Parrish and Francis Parrish, her sister: Gail Jean, her husband: Don Heye, and her life partner: Butch McGraw. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 10, 2026 at First Lutheran Church in Plattsmouth with Pastor Ryan Maser officiating and Marsha Fleming as organist. There will be a visitation one hour prior the service at the church. Her Final Resting Place will be at Omaha National Cemetery in Omaha, NE.
