EUGENE HARRY MEIER 1941 – 2024 Eugene “Gene” Harry Meier, age 83 of Plattsmouth, NE unexpectedly passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024 in his garden at his residence. Gene was born on February 3, 1941 to Harry Herman Meier and Alberta Marie (Bohling) Meier in West Point, NE. He was raised and schooled in West Point. Gene attended Wayne State College and later the Omaha School of Commerce. He worked as a book keeper and office manager for Crest Petroleum in Omaha, NE. Gene met the love of his life Evelyn M. Rief and they were married in 1961 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. Gene and Evelyn made their home in Omaha and in 1972 they purchased a service station and moved their family to Plattsmouth. He owned and operated Gene’s Service, with bait & tackle for 50 years. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, Plattsmouth Gun Club, Plattsmouth Chamber of Commerce, and the Historic Downtown Plattsmouth Association. Gene is survived by his wife: Evelyn Meier, Plattsmouth, NE; his four daughters: Deb (Kent) Colgrove, Plattsmouth, NE, Jane (Jerry) Steffes, Omaha, NE, Lori Meier, Plattsmouth, NE, and Nancy (Steve) Robeson, Adams, NE; eight grandchildren: Jennifer Wiles (Jared) Colgrove, Matthew Colgrove, Michael (Micah) Colgrove, Ryan Steffes, Ashley Steffes, Elayna Meier (Caleb) Morse, Zach Robeson, and Andrew Robeson; twelve great grandchildren; his sister: Joyce (Lyle) Metzger, Grand Island, NE; his brother: Kenton (Sue) Meier, Mt. Juliet, TN; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law: Alan C. Wiles. There will be a Visitation from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, November 15, 2024 at Church of the Holy Spirit in Plattsmouth. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Church of the Holy Spirit with Father Sean Timmerman officiating, John Meisinger as acolyte, Marvin Rief as lector, Terry Little as vocalist, and Laurie Hajek-Jones as organist. There will be a luncheon following the funeral mass at St. Johns the Baptist School Gymnasium. The Pallbearers will be Kent Colgrove, Matthew Colgrove, Michael Colgrove, Jerry Steffes, Ryan Steffes, Steve Robeson, Zach Robeson, and Andrew Robeson. His Final Resting Place will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Plattsmouth at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests Memorial Donations to the Plattsmouth Volunteer Firefighters Association, Church of the Holy Spirit or for Masses.
