JAMES WILLIS SMITH 1935 – 2018 James Willis Smith age 82 of Plattsmouth, NE passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at his residence. He was born on November 17, 1935 to Robert Donald and Ruby Margaret (Bond) Smith in Stockton, CA. James was raised and schooled in Stockton and he graduated from Lodi High school. Then he enlisted in the California Army National Guard. In the January of 1954 he entered the U.S. Air Force and he served his country for twenty years serving two tours of duty in Vietnam and he was a prop engine mechanic. He met Carole Lynette Owen in England and then he went to Japan for two years. James met up with Carole in Starkville MS, where she was visiting her sister and they were later married on May 28, 1962. In 1975, James retired from the Air Force. He and family moved to California where he owned and operated Smith Produce for three years. He then moved his family to Lake City Florida and became a building inspector for Lake City for two years. James attended and graduated from a truck driving school in Nevada. Then in 1990, James and his family moved to Plattsmouth, NE where he worked as an over the road truck driver until he retired in 1994. James was a member of Lepert Wolever V.F.W. Post #2543 of Plattsmouth. He is survived by his wife: Carole Smith of Plattsmouth, NE; son: Edward Smith and wife Lisa of Plattsmouth, NE; two daughters: Jacqueline Morehead and husband Christopher of Plattsmouth, NE; Victoria Adkins & Jody Hermann of Nebraska City, NE; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his siblings; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Donald and Ruby Smith. A Private Graveside Memorial Service will be held at the Omaha National Cemetery. His final resting place will be at Omaha National Cemetery in Omaha, NE. Military Rites will be conducted by Offutt Air Force Base Military Rites Team of Bellevue, NE.
