Norman "Norm" Gene Henry

NORMAN GENE HENRY 1939 – 2016 Norman "Norm" Gene Henry age 77 of Plattsmouth, NE, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Nebraska Medicine - Bellevue. He was born on May 6, 1939 to Marion John and Margaret Joanna (Austin) Henry in Plattsmouth. He was raised and schooled in Plattsmouth and graduated from Plattsmouth High School with the class of 1957. After high school, Norm served in the US Army Reserves and he began working at Allied Chemical in La Platte, NE. He met the love of his life, Betty Lee Smiley and they were later married on January 15, 1960 at First United Methodist Church in Plattsmouth. Norm and Betty owned and operated N & B Henry Rentals and made their home and raised their children in Plattsmouth. He worked at Allied Chemical for thirty four years and retired as the Maintenance Planner Supervisor. Norm and Betty enjoyed motorcycling, taking cruises and bus tours, and especially traveling with friends. Their travels took them to Europe, Alaska, Canada, Hawaii, and many islands. Norm was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Plattsmouth Rescue Squad, he was a past Master of the Plattsmouth Masonic Lodge #6 A.F. and A.M., and Scottish Rite in Omaha. He was a member for the Tangier Shrine Temple in Omaha. Norm was a Road Runner for the Shriners, transporting sick children to the Shrine Hospital in Minneapolis. He was also a greeter at the Shrine Circuses. Norm had been a Plattsmouth City Councilman for many years and was a Plattsmouth Rotary Club member. Norman is survived by his wife of fifty six years: Betty Henry, daughter: Kelli Henry, son: Jeff Henry and wife Traci, sister: Mary Ann Smalley, brother: Larry Henry and wife Cheryl all of Plattsmouth, NE; sister-in-law: Kris Sweat and husband Morris of Bellevue, NE; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Marion and Margaret Henry and two brothers-in-law: Jim Helm and Fay Smalley. Visitations will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 P.M., with family greeting relatives and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Roby Funeral Home in Plattsmouth. A Masonic Lodge Service will be held at 7:00 P.M., Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Roby Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, May 16, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Plattsmouth with Pastor Carl Anderson officiating, Chaz Macrander as reader, Terry Little as vocalist, and Carol Wehrbein as organist. The Pallbearers will be Jim Smalley, Terry Smalley, Jim Helm, James Bishop, David Sharp, Craig Ford, John Beals, Curt Pritchard, and Tuffy Gibson. The Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenneth Henry, Dean Biles, Bill Allgeier, Frank Prohaska, Kenny Aylor, Jerry Tilson, Tim Easterling, Rick Isham, Doug Anderson, and Charlie Caverzagie. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials to Plattsmouth EMS Department or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children® — Twin Cities.
