Ralph Leroy Parkening

RALPH LEROY PARKENING 1923 - 2014 Ralph Leroy Parkening age 90 of Plattsmouth, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the Nebraska Masonic Home. Ralph was born on October 22, 1923 to John Ernest and Sophie Anna (Hild) Parkening in Cullom, Nebraska. He was raised on his family's farm and was schooled in Cullom. He graduated from Plattsmouth High School with the class of 1941. After high school Ralph worked as a farmer on his family's farm. He met the love of his life Ruth Elaine Erickson and they later married on October 22, 1950 at the United Methodist Church in Louisville, NE. Ralph also worked as a school bus driver for the Plattsmouth Public Schools from 1966-1973. In 1973, they moved to Eldorado, Arkansas and owned and operated the Flamingo Motel. Ralph and Ruth moved to Bellevue, NE in 1977 where they owned and operated the Sandman Motel. Then Ralph and Ruth moved to Lincoln, NE, where he worked at Bryan Memorial Hospital in the supplies office. He and Ruth retired to Beaver Lake, NE and later to Plattsmouth, NE. He was a member of Plattsmouth Masonic Lodge #6 AF and AM, Nebraska Chapter #3 Royal Arch Masons, Adoniram Council #5 Cryptic Masons, and Mt. Zion Commandry #5 Knights Templar all of Plattsmouth, NE. Ralph, also had served on the Plattsmouth High School Board. Ralph is survived by his wife: Ruth Parkening of Plattsmouth, NE, two sons: Alan Parkening and wife Nancy of Millard, NE, Dale Parkening and wife Jenna of Omaha, NE, five grandchildren: Eric Parkening and wife Sara of Lincoln, NE, Jennifer Parkening-Karls and husband Jeff of Fremont, NE, Adam Parkening of Los Angeles, CA, Scott Parkening of Lincoln, NE, Todd Parkening of Lincoln, NE, great grandson: Bennet Parkening, sister: Katherine Ayers and husband Richard of Calabasas, CA, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents: John and Sophie Parkening. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Louisville, NE with Pastor Heidi Bolt officiating, Debbie Erickson as vocalist, and Jack Franke as organist. Visitations will be held from 1-9 P.M., Friday, March 21, 2014 with family greeting relatives and friends from 6-8 P.M. at Roby Funeral Home in Plattsmouth. A Masonic Lodge Service will be held at 7:00 P.M., Friday, March 21, 2014 at Roby Funeral Home in Plattsmouth. The Pallbearers will be Eric Parkening, Jennifer Parkening-Karls, Adam Parkening, Scott Parkening, Todd Parkening, Sara Parkening, Jeff Karls, and Donna Niemeyer. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth, NE. The family suggests memorials to Christ Lutheran Church.
