SHIRLEY ANN LAKEY 1934 - 2016 Shirley Ann (Meints) Lakey age 81 of Syracuse, NE, lost her valiant fight with cancer on Sunday, March 20, 2016. She went peacefully, surrounded by family at her residence in Syracuse. She was born on December 16, 1934 to William Brune and Rachel Ann (Boward) Meints in Cortland, NE. At a young age, she moved with her family to Plattsmouth, NE. Shirley graduated from Plattsmouth High School with the class of 1952. She married and started a family, becoming a stay at home mother to her eight children. She loved roses and had a beautiful rose garden. She always had a passion for cooking, retiring from her last job as a breakfast cook. Another passion she had was crocheting afghans. You could often find her hands busy with a crochet hook, making yet another afghan for one of her children or grandchildren, finishing the last afghan just last week. She is survived by her two sons: Daniel Newburn and wife Joyce of La Vista, NE; Michael Newburn of Woodland, WA; six daughters: Coleen Robideaux and husband Chuck of Coolville, OH; Doreen Mayer and husband Dave of Plattsmouth, NE; Penny Martinson of Syracuse, NE; Janine Cruz and husband Orville of Avoca, NE; Shalene Pearson of Syracuse, NE; Eilene Rodriguez and husband Juan of Plattsmouth, NE; twenty one grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, brother: Norman Meints and wife Verla of Longview, WA; numerous cousins, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Rachel Meints, infant son: Shawn B. Gill, brother: Donald H. Meints, and nephew: Thomas Meints. Visitations will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 P.M., with family greeting relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Roby Funeral Home in Plattsmouth. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Roby Funeral Home in Plattsmouth with Pastor David Buco officiating. The Pallbearers will be Chad Coffelt, John Donoho, Brad Ludwig, Jeff Martinson, Justin Martinson, and Nicholas Welander. The Honorary Pallbearers will be Shirley's Loving Grandchildren. Final Resting Place will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth. Memorials to the Family.
