THOMAS LEO MCQUILLEN 1945 - 2019 Thomas Leo McQuillen age 73 of Plattsmouth, NE passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019 at his residence. He was born on April 11, 1945 to Joseph Cletus and Hazel Josephine (Jochum) in Dubuque, IA. Tom was raised and schooled in Epworth, IA and he graduated from Western Dubuque High School with the class of 1963. After graduating high school, Tom served his country for four years in the U.S. Navy. While Tom was on leave from the Navy, he married his high school sweetheart Joyce Mary Healy on October 29, 1966 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Placid, IA. While serving his country, Tom and Joyce moved to San Diego, CA. After he served his country he worked at his brother’s janitorial service. Then he worked at Quaker Oats until 1975, when he began working for UPS. On December 29, 1991, Tom and Joyce moved to Plattsmouth where they made their home. After thirty years of service, Tom retired from UPS in 2006. Tom was a member of Elks Lodge #39 of La Vista, NE. He is survived by his wife: Joyce McQuillen of Plattsmouth, NE, son: Dennis McQuillen of Plattsmouth, NE; two daughters: Vicki Kramer and husband Mark of Papillion, NE; Kimberly McQuillen of Omaha, NE; seven grandchildren: Jake, Ava, Miguel, David, Ashley, Natalie, and Kaleigh; two brothers: James McQuillen and wife Sheila of Papillion, NE; Joseph McQuillen and wife Corinne of Peosta, IA; two sisters: Carol Houtakker of Mora, IL; Sharon McAuliffe and husband Joe of Epworth, IA; sister in law: Judy McQuillen of Dyersville, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and many friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Hazel McQuillen, two brothers: Richard and Patrick McQuillen, and four sisters: Dorothy McQuillen, JoAnn Delany, Lois McDermott, and Joyce “Good Joyce” McQuillen. Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Roby Funeral Home in Plattsmouth. His Final Resting Place will be at Omaha National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M., on January 19, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Hall in Epworth, IA. In lieu of flowers, Cards of Condolences and Memorials can be sent to Joyce McQuillen in care of Roby Funeral Home. Memorials will sent to Tom’s favorite charities.
